What are Retractable Air Hoses?
Before we dig into the process and steps for how to store air hoses, you can always invest in a retractable air hose for easy cleanup and organization. Retractable air hoses come with a reel that automatically winds up the air hose using an internal recoil spring. The more the hose is pulled out, the more tension there is built-up on the recoil spring. This makes putting away air hoses that much easier.

How to Store Air Hoses Properly
Now say you already have a few air hoses that you don’t want to get rid of yet, but they do need to be properly stored away to prevent any issues. Here are a few options for you:
- Whatever you do, let the air hose wrap itself and follow it’s lead instead of manipulating it to twist and coil a certain way. Forcing the host can create cracks in the rubber over time. Once it’s coiled up, you can just leave it on the floor in a designated area away from where foot traffic might lead.
- This Flexzilla retractable air hose reel is an economical and ideal option. The reel features an auto retract/latch hose mechanism that simplifies every job by keeping excess hose out of the workspace and shop. Buy it now!
- The Levelwind hose reel is great if you’re using your air hose frequently. The integrated Levelwind technology works to get the hose layered back and forth and coiled easily. The reel has a heavy-duty design to withstand frequent use and for enhanced work efficiency. Buy it now!
- A bicycle wall hook can also work wonders for hanging an air hose if you’re looking for something extremely economical. Just mount the hook on a wall and wind up the air hose outlined above.
